Powder Coating Service
Rimguard is a batch powder coating shop. This means we specialize in smaller non-production parts. Our specialty is: wheels, rims, valve covers, calipers, springs, engine parts, motorcycle parts, motorcycle rims, atv parts, etc… Our powder coating process usually takes 1-2 days. Leave your rims & tires on the car, we have several car lifts and tire changers to make this process easy for the customer. We can also repair curb damage to your wheels before powder coating.
We also perform our on media blasting for your parts. At Rimguard, Inc. the removal of oil, dirt, grease, metal oxidation, and old liquid paint are performed prior to any powder coating. There are also various chemical and mechanical methods of stripping a wheel. The metal make up of a wheel / rim determines the most effective method for prepping the part. Prepping the object to be powder coated is essential to a long lasting durable finish.
Powder coating is a coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The main difference between conventional liquid paint and a powder coating is that powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form.
A few advantages of powder coating Include:
- Powder coatings emit near zero volatile organic compounds (VOC).
- Powder coatings can produce much thicker coatings than liquid coatings.
- Powder coating overspray can be recycled.
- A wide range of specialty effects and colors are easily accomplished.
- Powder coating is extremely tough and durable.
The way Rimguard, Inc. applies the powder coat to a part is to spray the powder using an electrostatic gun. The gun imparts a positive electric charge on the powder, which is then sprayed towards the grounded object by compressed air and then accelerated toward the object by the powerful electrostatic charge. We use a variety of spray nozzles, depending on the shape or design of the wheel. The powder-coated object is then heated, and the powder melts into a uniform film. The object is allowed to cool to form a hard durable coating.
